Spin Me Round~Round!

Merry~Go~Rounds are super fun!

I’m surprised that my youngest actually went back on this one this week.

Last time he got super sick and didn’t want to do anything for the rest of the day.

I guess he forgot that horrible sickly feeling.

…….

Just this springy/wiggly board, that my LBB blanket is laying on in the photo below, made me sick this week.

My DD decided it would be hilarious to wiggle and giggle me for a couple minutes until I was able to gather all my stuff and jump off.

….

NOT FUNNY!!

CAL week 7&8 1

……

My CAL Park Hoppin’ Blanket is growing nicely.

I use it to keep me warm while working on it.

This is why crocheting in the winter is convenient, your project becomes your comfort.

….

My Sister, April, was absolutely correct in saying that the yellow/gold color should go next.

I’m actually not minding the red and green anymore.

…..

Also she said that my blanket looks very cowboyish, I totally agree! Thanks Sis!

.

I’m a little late in getting my week 5&6 CAL post out, please forgive me!

.

I’ve been super busy clearing stuff from my house/life.

(stay tuned for some posts on this subject soon)

It’s a process and our life is becoming simpler every day.  I just love it!!

.

I reccomend downsizing to anyone because it really does make everything easier.

Check out Joshua’s Blog Becoming Minimalist, it’s very inspiring!

.

I really can’t wait until we’ve reached our goal, although, I’ve heard that the process never ends when minimalizing. Whatever! I’ll take this simpler life any day!

.

becoming minimalist

.

We’re moving right along on our CAL with PtoP.

I’ve steered away from the recommended color choices and used red in my rotation.

I’m gonna be honest…. I’m not lovin’ it!

It seems a little Christmasy to me, we’ll see how it goes.

.

.

Because I’ve been busy cleaning out stuff, we didn’t get out to the park this week.

Instead we enjoyed our own playground in our yard.

This horse has been around for about 24 years. Almost ready to be retired I think.

He’s done his duty making 6 kids and their friends happy for their whole child hood. I think we’ve only changed the rope once since we put him up and, oddly enough, he’s never had a name.

Hummm???

.

.

In the next row I think I’ll put a pop of yellow again. We shall see.

.

.

Now that I look at it, the red and green kinda look like tulips or roses.

Roses on a boys blanket…. ummmm!

What do you think?

.

.

Well, I hope you’re having a great week and so you know,

I’m almost finished with the next part so be looking for that post real soon.

***On a side note… I’m kinda confused about the workings of my blog and who is getting my posts emailed to them. If you have the time and don’t mind commenting real quick on this post I’ll be able to see if  my settings are correct and that it’s working correctly. You don’t have to say anything of meaning really…this is just a test, just tell me if you’ve been getting my blog posts in your email in box.

I’m not sure how else to go about this test so if you would, I’d surely appreciate you taking your time to comment.

Thanks so much!

New Park, New Part of My CAL

My littlest loves visiting all the different parks in all the towns near us.
He is always telling me his favorite part of each one.
I think someday he will build one awesome park with ALL his favorite elements.
He will most likely call it “The Most Epic Park Ever”.
.

.
It totally slipped my mind that last Monday was the day that a new section would be posted for the CAL with Petals & Pecots.
I have not been well lately so I was not paying attention to much of what was going on around me these past couple weeks.
(Don’t worry, I’m all better now, I think)
.
I’m only a little behind in the CAL.
Well, not really, let’s just say I’m not as far on weeks 3 & 4 as I was starting weeks 1 & 2.
It’s quite ok, I’ve got time before the next section is posted.
For me two weeks is a long time to wait but this gives me time if I get behind like last week.
It’s all good! I’m enjoying taking my time on this CAL.
.
LBBB weeks 3&4 show
.
I have to say, I do not like this part of this pattern.
Only because I do not like weaving in so many ends.
There are ways to get around that, like some gals in the CAL have done,
but I just followed the pattern as it was written.
So much for making things easier on me.
.
LBBB weeks 3&4
.
The main reason for not liking all the loose ends is not because of the work involved but I’m worried that, this being a baby blanket,  will be washed a lot and all those loose ends will start peeking out as they are already doing.
This yarn is super soft so the ends slide easily even if woven in well.
.
Speaking of that, if I get a chance I want to show you how I weave in my starting ends as I go. Maybe in some diagrams or something but that’s for another post. Stay tuned…

Back to the blanket…
It’s so nice to be able to see fellow CAL’s photos on the Ravelry page for this Little Boy Blue Blanket.
It helps to see if you’re doing it right. So many great color combos too.
Lots of inspiration for starting the next LBB blanket.
.
.
I am loving this blanket!! I’ve never made a blanket that was all crochet.
I have made one that was knit AND crochet.
This one will soon be available in my Etsy shop.
.
Now to wait for the next part….or cheat a little and look on the Lion Brand site to work ahead….
No, No, No Q, you’re not gonna do that!!
This is, after all, a Crochet-ALong not a race to finish first!!

CAL = Crochet A-Long

I’m so excited to be joining in on Petals and Picots CAL.
I’ve never done a CAL before so this should be pretty fun.
.
Some of these, what I like to call “parties”, don’t let you know what the end result will be. This CAL isn’t like that, I saw the beautiful photo of the blanket (below) and just had to join in.
(I don’t think I would join in on a CAL where I didn’t know what the end result would be! Would you?)
Petals to Picots

Photo from PtoP

This CAL is setup so that every 2 weeks you get another section of the pattern. You can work at your own pace throughout the two weeks until another section is posted. Hopefully 2 weeks is plenty of time to complete that given section. I hope I don’t get too bored waiting for the next part, although I do have enough other projects started to keep me busy.
(Does anyone ever just have one project going at a time? “Not I” said Q)
.
You can find the details to the CAL here on Ravelry or on Facebook or on the Petals and Picots Blog.
Always something new on PtoP!
.
This morning I woke up anxiously anticipating the first post of the pattern. I was hoping that it would be posted before we left for our day at the park, and it was!!! Yay me!!
.
My color selections.

Color Choices for CAL

I’m using the yarn that the pattern suggested (Lion Brand’s Heartland Yarn Collection) with only one color switch up. (because the store didn’t have the one color that was needed)
This pattern is hooked up with a K size hook.
.
My gauge swatch.
Guage 2
Who else never makes a gauge before you start a project? I’m so bad. This time I completed one because I knew I was going to be posting about it so I thought I would be an obedient student.
.
For those of you who are just starting to crochet or knit, a gauge is a set number of stitches that you work before you start your pattern so that you can see if you are using the correct hook size for the tension that you work. You need the correct size so that your finished item turns out the size that the pattern says it will. (In this case the gauge is 11dc by 6 rows = 4″)
Everyone crochets or knits with a different tension so you may need to go up or down on your hook size depending on how tight or loose you make your stitches. A beginner’s stitches may vary with every stitch. With practice your stitches will become uniform in size.
.
Luckily I had a tape measure in the car and it turns out that my gauge is a go!!
Whew, got thru that part!

.
When one of my kids has a class in another town we plan our day accordingly by entertaining the others elsewhere. Today we brought along our lunch and then the littles played, did some school and I did my thing with my hook.
Lunch at park
.
I only had to frog one row because I missed one DC in the one corner.
That happened when the kids came over and wanted me to push them on the swings.
If only we never had interruptions while crocheting!

Oops, She Did It Again!

She got asked to test another pattern.

I was asked again by Susan of Felted Button to test her newest crochet pattern. Last time, I tested her Paintbrush Pattern. I was actually surprised that she chose me again but anyhoo, YAY ME!! I love testing for Susan because the sky is the limit with her patterns. She is a genius with color and stitch patterns. I’ve learned so much just by testing for her, in fact she was a guest blogger on CrochetHappy today. Check it out HERE.

……….

The pattern I tested is called the Candy Stick Blanket and I knew right away what my inspiration was gonna be when I saw the name.

…..

One day my kids and I were taking a trip to IKEA on our way to fetch my husband from the airport. We needed to eat so we had dinner at Cracker Barrel. My daughter loves shopping in their attached Country Store. She found the Webkins baskets. Then she found one that she “had to have mommy!” “I’ll pay you back Mommy!” “Please Mommy, it’s a rare one!” Well even with all that pleading and begging I didn’t cave. Yay mom! Poor Em!

My bad! Because for weeks all I heard about was that Webkins thing that “Mom wouldn’t let her get” We pay in some way no matter the decision we make don’t we?!

Well, Just so happens that my son needed to go to IKEA which is near the Cracker Barrel where we saw the thing so I took the chance while he sat in the car to run in and try to find it in those baskets. All the time thinking it won’t be there, it’s been too long… well low-and-behold it was in the bottom basket shoved under all the other ones. I bet she did that weeks ago. That would be just like her to attempt the ‘hide and retrieve later, night before black Friday’ trick.

Yes, I caved!

Meet “Candy Googles” The girl’s Factory Named Webkinz Pet.

I made “Candy Googles” her welcome home gift from a week away with her cousin.

……

Anyhoo, back to Susan’s Candy Stick Blanket Pattern

This photo is from her newly released pattern.

You can find it on Etsy, Craftsy and Ravelry. Click the photo below and you will find the links on Susan’s post.

 .

My girl helped me find just the right colors to match Candy Googles and I got to work on digging into Susan’s new pattern. I LOVE learning new things!!  I found only a couple typos and glad I was able to help her out with this one because now I have, what seems to me, when I test, to be a gift from Susan.

A BRAN NEW PILLOW!!

THE BACK…

This was made with a wool sport coat that I found at the thrift store. I felted it in my washer then cut out a section for the backing. I think I paid $1. for the coat.

WITH TASSELS!

I decided to add tassels because it sat so high up and thought tassels would fill that space well. Plus my daughter will get a kick out of those. PomPoms would have looked nice too.

.

CSPillow 2

.

I started making the Candy Stick Blanket just to test for Susan. I was going to frog out the border after I completed my 12 rows and a border of the pattern and continue on. Well, it turned out that it seemed to me to be another perfect pillow cover just like my last pattern testing for Susan.

If you remember this one, my first one.

Paintbrush Pillow WM

.

This newest one seemed to go a little faster for me, after all it was really only two different stitches and one of those was a chain. Super simple… Candy Googles says you can do this one!!

.

CSPillow 3

.

It looks really sweet in her room too!

CSPillow 5

My son came home today from being a counselor at the camp she is at this week (they gave him a small break) so after taking these photos I packed her pillow plus Candy Googles(plus the twin sheet that she forgot to pack for her bed) into a sweet bag and asked my son to place it on her bed at camp. She’s gonna be so happy that it’s finished AND that she got a gift from Mom AND she gets to have it to cuddle at camp! (Brownie points for mom!)

.

Head on over to FeltedButton and look at Susan’s patterns. Her Patterns are chock full of photos and explanations so you should not have a problem conquering any of them.

.

Please comment below with your thoughts on my newest pillow.

(BTW: I think I’ve got some settings wrong because I haven’t received any comments lately. If you do comment that may help me figure this out. And if it doesn’t show up here please go on over to my FB page and let me know there if you would. Thanks so much!!) I believe there’s something wrong with my subscribe button too… Grrr!!

Funny Cake

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

And why are we laughing so much? It’s about the cake/pie isn’t it?

This cake is kinda funny isn’t it?

.

image

.

Why is it funny?

.

Well, I believe it’s because of this….

image

When you make it you put the chocolate on the top, but then………

.

image

WA-LA It ends up on the BOTTOM.

SO FUNNY!!!

.

This is an old Pennsylvania Dutch cake recipe.

.

I’m gonna share the recipe with you but please don’t tell anyone, not sure if I’m supposed to share because it’s my BIL’s recipe of which he got from his high school teacher. It’s the recipe they used to make in Home-Ec class….when they used to do that kind of stuff… don’t think they teach baking in public schools anymore, you may correct me if I’m wrong because I wouldn’t know…all 6 of our children have not stepped foot into a public school since my first was in first grade and he’s 25 yrs old this year. We’ve home schooled them all the way through.

ANYHOO….

.

This recipe is for 4 – 9″ pies or 5 – 8″ pies.

If you’re interested in just making one pie, use the amounts in parenthesis. (although I don’t know why you would want to do that because if you can’t eat all of them then share some with your neighbor, yes they’re that good and so easy to just do the 4!)

*Please pay attention to one of the side notes on the one photo because I goofed and I think you should know so you don’t make the same mistake and so you do not think I am perfect…. funny story…NOT!

Here it goes….

.

FUNNY CAKE

.

Bottom Part…or is it the Top Part?? Let’s just call this the Chocolate Part :

Ingredients -

2 c Sugar (1/2 c)

1 c Cocoa (1/4 c)

2 c Hot Water (1/2 c)

2 tsp. vanilla (1/2 tsp.)

Combine and let cool.

image

image

.

Bottom Part or Cake Part – if you will :

Ingredients -

3 c Sugar (3/4 c)

1 c shortening, I use butter (1/4 c)

4 eggs (1)

4 c Flour (1 c)

5 tsp Baking Pwd (1 1/4 tsp.)

4 Pinch Baking Soda (1 pinch)

1 tsp. Salt (1/4 tsp.)

2 c Milk (1/2 c)

.

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl.

.
image

imageimage

.

Cream shortening, sugar, and egg

.

image   image

.

Add milk alternately with dry ingredients.

.

image

.

Pour batter into crusts evenly.

.

I just use the store brand pie crusts, you can make your own but these are actually rather tasty!

image

.

OK, here is where I need to clarify…. Do not use 3 crusts instead of 4… I totally tried to shove all the batter for 4 pies into 3 pie crusts…. where was my head?!! In this photo there is way too much batter in those crusts!!

Trust me… if you do as I did, once(this time of course),  your oven will NEVER EVER be the same again!

Just try to get the batter evenly distributed amongst, at least, 4 crusts. (If they’re small, shallow crusts use 5.)

Bonus: you get 5 pies if they’re small.

image

.

Pour chocolate part on TOP of batter. It will be runny so be sure to be close to your oven so you have less chance of spillage. (don’t ask!) I do not know what was wrong with me on this day!

.

image

.

Bake at 400* for 30-35 minutes.

 .

image image

.

Makes 5 – 8″ or 4 – 9″ cakes.

.

Be sure to comment here if you make these Funny Cakes. I’d love to hear how you liked your cakes.

Please be sure to brag if you didn’t make any of the mistakes that I made this time around.

.

Happy Baking!

Introducing….

“Shabby Shack”

.

I don’t think I’ve officially introduced my Shabby on my blog yet.

This here is my Vintage 1968 Fleetwing Camper named “Shabby Shack”

(Yes I name all my campers and I am not alone in doing this! Check out my Sister’s campers on the SOTF site.)   Some call these a Canned Ham or a Tiny Travel Trailer but I call them Pure Cuteness!

.

Camp Taylor 2012

.

I found Shabby on Craigslist. On a whim.

Her outside is original but I plan on changing her up a bit this summer.

.

This was when we were pulling her home from Baltimore.

We stopped at The Turkey Hill Experience to break up the trip.

.

Her inside has been totally redone.

.

Inside Shabby

.

This is my little dollhouse.

Us Sisters have a few mottos and one of them is “Making Girls Out of Women.”  When I’m in Shabby I feel like a little girl playing house. I have all the conveniences of home except for one thing… A bathroom. I’m still young so it hasn’t really become an issue yet. When it does, it’ll be time for a shack with those utilities.   Everything in Shabby has been a found item that I purchased for really cheap while junkin or thrifting or it was given to me from special friends and Sisters.

.

I have a few campers but this one is girls only! I take my only daughter on trips in this one. Shabby is our toy. The girl says her favorite part about camping in Shabby is waking up in the morning to the smell of Shabby, the quiet sounds and her and I being together. I’ve come to believe that alone time with each of your children is very important, especially when you have 6.

.

Here is my girl on the bunk in Shabby.

I can’t wait till spring weather so I can open her up and sit with some coffee and my iPad and just enjoy the quiet in the mornings and also have my friends over, cause Shabby is always ready for a visit with my friends.

.

2012-05-03 19.47.56

As you can see, Shabby makes me very happy!

She’s my escape, my refuge from all that is wrong, my hiding place.

Would You Shop at a Mobile Boutique?

Please answer with your thoughts in the reply section below.

.

If you’ve read my last post I’m wondering if I’ve got you thinking more about Mobile Boutiques?

_

Question is….

If one were available in your area, would you shop at a gathering of Mobile Boutiques?

_

Imagine if you will…

…A collection of Mobile Boutiques on a Saturday morning in that empty lot in your town. One to get your Saturday morning coffee and a pastry with cafe chairs and tables along side(I would ride my bike to enjoy this!), one to find that gift for that baby or wedding shower you’re going to next Saturday, one for that scarf you’ve been wanting for your new spring outfit you just bought, one for that vintage item you’ve been looking for all year, Then…get this… have lunch at the Sandwich or Pizza Camper when you’re done.

I could go on and on!!

_

I know it’s not a new idea, I’ve done my research,

but Mobile Boutiques would be a new idea in my area.

_

Below are some other ideas for Mobile Boutiques from my Pinterest page.

(I’m not gonna leave a link for each photo but know that each photo is linked to my Pinterest for you to look into its origin.)

The endless ideas for shops just amazes me. I actually haven’t gotten mine narrowed down yet but I’ve got ideas.

From food trucks to retail to even a salon in a camper. How about a place to get a mani-pedi? Wow!

All are doable.

I think it’s just a funky idea and I want to see it through.

Mobile Boutiques

I’ve made some new friends ….

…completely across the country. Long distance relationships can work! YES!

.

I was doing some research for a Mobile Boutique business that I hope to start up real soon. Hopefully it’s possible in my area and hopefully I find some friends that maybe would want to join me in a new venture. Hopefully everything falls in place. Hopefully, hopefully….

.

While researching I stumbled onto my new friend’s site called Carovana. This was exciting yet crushing for me to find this because I earlier had just been choosing names for my 1970 Sprite caravan. I knew her name was to be “Clara” and eventually I came to “Claravan” for the mobile shop. I had pretty much settled on this name but then in searching other names I came across one that already existed called “Carovana“.

.

I contacted Kimberly, who owns Carovana, to inquire about her business, of which I found out that she and her pose were pioneers in her area just a few months before and they’re now going strong with 6 mobile shops in their gathering.

This actually gives me more hope to get mine started here in my east coast area. Hopefully!

Kimberly also assured me that she wouldn’t mind at all if I use the name Claravana even though her name was so close.

She’s way out in WA, she says, so it shouldn’t be confusing. Thanks Kimberly! You’re a Gem!

.

The girls have a collective committee called Walla Walla Valley Mobile Boutiques where they meet together and plan events. They each own their own business in their campers and work together to make it work, as to give more choices to the shopper. They each have a FB page and advertise as their own business but in general they are one.

You can visit them all here….

Turns out too that I will be visiting her in WA this summer to go Glamping with all the girls.

My Sister friend Melody shared this photo on her Facebook page and I just think these are the greatest!

If you don’t know already, I’m a summer girl and yes Easter is kinda the springboard for summer.

These sure make me think of Summer!!

 .

Melody (I talk about her HERE) says….

“Looking through an old album of craft projects. Almost forgot about this pic from ’96, Easter eggs I decorated as watermelons. Simple dye (light) green and sponge stripes (green food coloring straight from the tube). So cute…and seedless!”

.

I’ll say they’re cute and not your normal run of the mill Easter eggs.

This kinda crafting I always welcome!

.

Do you have any awesome decorated eggs to show us?

Let us know in the comment section of this post.

.

Have a wonderful Resurrection Holiday!

Introducing Q’s version…

.

….of my new friend Susan’s pattern of the Paintbrush Pillow at Felted Button.

WoW, that was a mouthful.

.

Anyhoo, for those who haven’t been keeping up,

I was chosen by Susan to test this pattern for a pillow.

I was so excited to have been chosen that I got right to work

and here is my finished Paintbrush Pillow.

.

Paintbrush Pillow WM

.

I just love it!

This pattern can have a modern look as well as the classic crochet look like Susan’s.

.

I keep watching Ravelry to see if anyone has started their own. Just to see how different it can look.

.

Paintbrush Pillow 3 WM

.
I used my grandmother’s vintage buttons to close it up on the edge instead of using a cardigan sweater and closing up the center. I also made mine in a rectangle instead of a square.

Paintbrush Pillow 7 WM

Paintbrush Pillow 2 WM

.

Paintbrush Pillow 6 WM

.

I hope you liked my version and that you try this pattern out yourself.

.

This pillow will soon be listed in my Etsy Shop.

If it’s not there and you want one like it please convo me on Etsy or here on my QCreated site.

.

I love comments! Tell me what you think!

.

Happy Hooking!!

::Paintbrush Pillow Cover & Afghan Pattern::

Well, she finished the pattern.

.

I have not yet finished my cover but I did give Susan my feedback on the pattern.

I found it easy to put together and the pattern has flow. I could see myself completing an entire afghan with this pattern.

Susan calls this the Paintbrush Pillow Cover.

The pattern is ready and you can find it herehere, or here

.

The pillow back is a felted sweater.  Easy peasy!

.

My completed pillow will be photographed soon.

Mine’s just a little different in that mine is rectangle because, well, a rectangle pillow form was cheaper to buy.

$5. cheaper and that’s pretty significant if you ask me. I’m always looking for the cheaper way to do things.

That’s how I roll. ha

.

Stay tuned….

Testing….

…A pattern.

I was asked to test a pattern for this pillow.

Isn’t it just the cutest!

Mine won’t be quite as colorful cause I just got asked tonight and what I have on hand is what I have to use.

Test pattern

I’ll give photo credits for the above photo and let you know who I’m testing for in a couple days.

This is Susan’s photo from Felted Button. She will soon have this pattern available to you.

I can’t wait to see how other crocheters use their colors in this pattern!

I’d take my own photos of my progress but it’s way too dark tonight to get a good shot.

(Just hope I’m not breaking any photo posting rules, sorry if I am)

.

When I’m finished, and she’s posted her pattern, I’ll give ya a heads up and a link to her pattern.

.

I’m just so excited that I got asked to do this and I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

.

Stay tuned!!
